Zünd Cutter Opens Up New Markets For Business

Since the purchase of their new Zünd cutter, Harrison Packaging have seen real benefits, which allows them to improve turnaround times for customers.

Harrison Packaging purchased the new S3 M-1200 Zünd Digital Cutter to increase the flexibility and speed of response for their bespoke sampling service. The Harrison journey began in 1882 when the business was established by Sir John Harrison. From modest roots as a commercial printer, the business began to carve out a niche offering in the UK packaging market during the 1940’s.

More recently, after moving focus entirely to the folding carton market, the company moved to the current site in Earlsway and set out a clear strategy for the future. From roots firmly established in the ethical pharmaceutical market, the business has diversified into a wide variety of markets and continues to drive growth into areas which play to their strengths.

With well over a century of shared knowledge and expertise, the company continues to innovate with both the products and services provided to an increasingly diverse customer base. Mike Baum, Managing Director at Harrison Packaging said, ‘By continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in solid board and finding smarter ways to do things, we are developing some really inventive and environmentally sustainable solutions that are not only bringing real value to our customers but, which our team are very proud of.’

The company purchased their first Zünd cutter as part of a wider investment project for the future. Baum added, ‘As part of our business plan to grow and explore new market sectors, we decided to purchase a Zünd S3 M-1200. We chose Zünd because they offered versatile equipment which could accommodate a wide range of different materials, including thicker and more durable substrates. Our aim is to offer quality, innovative and bespoke solutions to what are increasingly demanding markets and we feel confident our new Zünd digital cutter will support our growth plans.’

Baum said, ‘Our designers have really taken to the new Zünd cutter. They are always experimenting with new design ideas and this gives them the capability to exceed customer expectations. They have found the user interface very easy to navigate with minimal training.’

As part of the pre-installation process, Harrison Packaging used the Vyn App to carry out their Zünd site survey. Vyn is a SmartVideoNotes data application designed to capture and share information from the field, which can then be analysed and reviewed remotely to enable tracking and actionable next steps based on AI-driven outcomes. The Vyn App had additional benefits since the pandemic as it has helped protect Zünd staff from doing on-site sites.

Reflecting on his experience using the Vyn App, Phil Hardy, Studio Manager at Harrison Packaging said, ‘The app was very easy to use. Within seconds of downloading the app, we started using it. It was very intuitive, we just followed the questions. The overall installation went very smoothly with only minor setbacks that were easily overcome.’ The video evidence ensures everyone in Zünd knows the cutter and customer’s full details for any future services.
