UPM has been recognised for efforts in tackling deforestation. The company is one of a few high-performing companies out of nearly 12,000 that were scored by non-proift organisation CDP, which uses a detailed and independent methodology for assessment. CDP has recognised UPM on the Forests A List for tackling deforestation.
‘We highly value the positioning on the Forests A List. UPM is committed to climate positive forestry and improving biodiversity. Climate positive forestry means that our own and leased forests continue to be carbon sinks and that we always grow more than we harvest,’ said Sami Lundgren, VP, UPM Responsibility.
‘Many congratulations to all the companies on this year’s A List. Taking the lead on environmental transparency and action is one of the most important steps businesses can make, even more so in the year of COP26 and the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. Leadership from the private sector is essential for securing global ambitions for a net-zero, nature positive and equitable world. Our A List celebrates those companies who are preparing themselves to excel in the economy of the future by taking action today,’ said Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP.
CDP also scores companies for tackling climate change and taking action to ensure water security. In water, UPM received A- and in Climate, a score B. ‘UPM is committed to science-based targets and has signed two ambitious climate pledges: the UN Business Ambition for 1.5°C and The Climate Pledge by Amazon and the Global Optimism,’ said Lundgren.
