Thiela Image purchased a Durst P10/320R after seeing it exhibited on Kemtek’s stand at the Africa Print Expo, which took place from 2-4 July 2014 in Johannesburg.

Enlisting the help of a local logistics firm, Kemtek hoisted the massive 6.5 ton unit onto a flatbed truck and transported it just a few hundred metres down the road from the expo site at the Gallagher Convention Centre to its new home in Richards Drive.

Kemtek’s resident Durst specialist, Riaan De Koker and sales executive, David Fenn supervised the entire installation and in-house training with Thiela’s entire production team.

A Thiela management representative remarked, ‘We’re extremely proud to own the all-new Durst inkjet printer. Over the years, we’ve become renowned for pushing the boundaries in wide-format printing and finishing and, when we saw the P10/320R in action, we realised it’s the perfect technology to complement our current line-up and address specific wide-format printing needs. Having installed the Durst Lambda photographic printer some years ago, we are already familiar and delighted with Durst’s technology, industry know-how and international service standards, reinforced locally by the expert Kemtek team.’

With its proprietary Quadro Array P10 printhead technology and magnetic linear drive carriage system, the P10/320R raises the bar in terms of roll-to-roll wide-format printing. Utilising a six-colour gamut, plus white, the press produces fine art print quality that’s ideally suited for high visibility, backlit applications, as well as selected textiles and stretch media. It also has the ability to enhance productivity by printing side-by-side on two 1.6m rolls of media, with differing image data for each.

‘The versatility of the P10/320R really appeals to us, allowing us to explore various lucrative opportunities in outdoor and indoor signage, vinyl POS material, small- and medium-sized packaging and backlit applications for luxury goods and more,’ said a Thiela representative. ‘With the ability to run at an optimum speed of 190sqm/hour and still create a perfect, true colour print, it’s going to halve our production times and delivery lead times. That’s good news for us and our valued customers.’
