Screen Finalises Development Of Inkjet Press

SCREEN is showcasing the Truepress PAC 520P at drupa 2024, being held until 7 June. The new water-based inkjet press is designed for paper packaging, and this innovative system is available worldwide.

The continuing diversification of consumer needs in recent years has seen brand owners adopt various strategies to drive interest and increase the marketability of their products. Even for individual items, they now often use a number of package designs and link each product to targeted digital information. Product packaging is also often changed in rapid cycles driven by sales campaigns.

At the same time, a growing awareness of environmental issues has led many countries to increasingly regulate plastic use and work toward the creation of a more sustainable global society. For companies, this has triggered a shift away from packaging made from conventional fossil-based plastic packaging toward more easily recyclable naturally derived packaging.

Unfortunately, traditional analogue presses used by converters cannot cope with this shift toward increased product diversification and new, sustainable forms of packaging, hindering production efficiency and significantly impacting profitability.

In response to these needs, SCREEN GA has leveraged its innovative, market-proven technologies to develop the Truepress PAC 520P, a new type of press for paper packaging that is designed to meet the industry’s increasingly demanding requirements for quality, productivity and safety. The system is now available in markets worldwide.

The Truepress PAC 520P can print onto media widths of up to 520mm at a superior resolution of 600 x 900dpi and speeds up to 80 metres per minute thanks to a specially designed drying mechanism optimised for paper packaging.

In addition, the Truepress PAC 520P uses SCREEN’s proprietary Truepress ink NP. These water-based inks comply with European food and safety regulations and guidelines, known for their strict inspection standards, ensuring a high level of consumer safety. The system also includes various eco-friendly features, such as the use of lightweight and easily recyclable bag-in-box units for the ink tanks.

The Truepress PAC 520P is a digital system that dramatically reduces prepress processing and printing preparations compared with conventional methods. It also significantly shortens production times and decreases the number of operators required on-site, as well as their workloads.

Even with high value-added packaging runs, such as mixed, small lot, and variable design items, the press is able to maintain throughput with no lessening of productivity. This allows converters to create a printing environment capable of supporting a more comprehensive range of applications and serving a more diverse portfolio of clients.
