Printing SA Announces Latest Industry Updates

Printing SA has announced its latest industry updates, which include winning an award at the annual FP&M SETA Best Practice Recognition Awards, supporting the 16 Days Of Activism Exhibition, and announcing a triumph for the thermal paper rolls industry.

FP&M SETA Best Practice Awards

Printing SA are the recipients of the award for the Best Project Addressing Gender – Women Headed Projects. This award was received by the Management team of Printing SA on the 30 November 2023. This recognition is once again testament to the impact and critical acclaim that the Women in Print Series has garnered in only its second year running. Printing SA is humbled by this prestigious award for having executed a spectacular series once again.

Printing SA Supports 16 Days Of Activism Exhibition

On the 25 November 2023, Printing SA was invited to participate and sponsor the Opening Ceremony of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign in Mpumalanga, which was hosted by the Premier of Mpumalanga.

The keynote address was delivered by Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, who was supported by the Ministers of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities and Social Development. This special invitation came as a result of the Office of the Presidency having been notified by one of Printing SA’s ambassadors and advocates, Jacki Mpondo–Hendricks, who alerted the office to the various initiatives that Printing SA has embarked on. These included the Women in Print Event series and the plant tours that it recently hosted with the MEC of Gauteng’s Department of Economic Development.

The Thermal Paper Roll Duty Request For An Increase Application Has Been Granted

In 2020, Printing SA received a complaint from thermal converters that many tons of finished thermal point of sales (POS) rolls are imported into South Africa every year. Local converters are compromised because they can’t compete on price against the imported products.

Printing SA investigated whether other thermal converters were indeed affected by the imports. After receiving an overwhelming response from thermal converters who wanted assistance, the process of initiating the customs duty increase started.

Thermal converters welcome the increase but will still pursue an anti-dumping application as they say the increase of 5% will not make much change against cheap imports. Furthermore, the thermal converters are in discussion with the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) division of Legal Metrology to determine the possible regulation of finished thermal paper through Legal Metrology.
