Oki and Johannesburg Child Welfare are bringing together some of South Africa's top comedians to support Johannesburg Child Welfare (JCW) at a comedy fundraiser, ‘Are you kidding me?’ on 23 September, 2015.
For one night only, John Vlismas, Mark Banks, Mpho 'Popps' Modikoane, Ndumiso Lindi, Daniel 'Deep fried Man' Friedman and Tumi Morake will raise the roof at the Barnyard Theatre in Rivonia for JCW’s third annual comedy fundraiser. With the past two events receiving rave reviews, this event promises to be another hit event.
Asked why this line-up has given up its time to participate, also forfeiting performance fees, comedian Mark Banks stressed, 'Child welfare is a very worthy cause. It needs as much money as possible in order to cover the extensive work it does. I am bringing some of my own items to put on auction on the night and I am talking to my dodgy famous friends like Bruce Fordyce, Dali Tambo and Isidingo’s Barker Haines aka Robert Whitehead, to give me items as well. If they don’t, I will simply help myself to something. I don’t support charities where money is not given to those who need it most and I know where JCW is concerned, money is reaching the right places.'
The primary sponsor of this 2015 event is OKI South Africa. Marketing manager, Greg Sellars, said that while the company supports a number of different charities, JCW is an extremely important entity to contribute to. 'This is not something that is aligned with any particular strategy,' he said. 'This is simply our way of giving back.'
Seat bookings for 23 September can be done directly on JCW’s website, http://jhbchildwelfare.org.za/, or by contacting Tracey Pitout: events@jhbchildwelfare.org.za or 011 298 8500.
