Minuteman Press Rivonia, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, has invested in a Xerox Versant 280 press, which was installed by Altron Document Solutions (ADS).

This is the second production colour machine that Minuteman Press Rivonia have invested in from Xerox, the first being the Xerox Versant 180 (V180). The V280 was installed to boost volume growth.

The Xerox Versant 280 (V280) press combines speed and quality with the ability to print on supported stocks up to 400gsm. Versatile media support includes envelopes and stock as small as 98 x 146mm and as long as 330 x 660mm. Labels, tabs and special substrates like synthetics, polyesters, window clings, transfer paper and magnetic stocks are also supported.

In addition, the V280 features toner consistency, coverage and alignment controls using Xerox’s Simple Image Quality Adjustment (SIQA) automation; closed-loop process controls for colour consistency and Xerox EA Toner with 2400 x 2400dpi Ultra HD (UHD) resolution. It also features 10-bit RIP rendering, even on metallics and specialty toners, and inline finishing options from simple folds and staples to full bleed, square edge, face-trimmed booklets.

Minuteman Press Rivonia’s Julie Lawson said, ‘With the addition of the V280, we are experiencing a more improved turnaround time, as well as cost savings with the lower click charges. This allows us to remain competitive and increase margins to a small extent, but also negotiate more effectively to convert quotes sent by offering discounts where necessary. The speed of the machine is improved versus the older models. With the press, we have been in a position to more easily meet clients’ deadlines and take on more ‘rush jobs’. In doing so, this has assisted us to win new clients and thereby have the long-term opportunity for further business.’

‘This is a very big focus of Minuteman Press as a whole internationally and locally, as the value we provide to our customers is generally not the first order they place with us, but as they see the value, we can add to their businesses in assisting with design, print, marketing and promotional products that are offered through our network.’

Lawson also said that with the reduced running costs and increased speed of the machine, they are finding that larger volume print work – which was previously more cost effective to print with larger commercial printers – is now able to be printed in-house in shorter times. ‘This allows more control in managing workflow and allows us more ability to market larger print runs with shorter lead times, resulting in us being in a better position to ‘close’ clients when ordering.’

‘We are also then able to monitor the quality of the print work and correct issues on the fly, thereby decreasing delays and ensuring client deadlines are met. All of this improves our overall reputation in the market, resulting in trust in our product, repeat business and increased referrals from our loyal customers.’

The service from ADS’ technicians was praised, as were the sales, accounts and technical teams: ‘I would most certainly recommend ADS within our franchise as well as the print industry as a whole,’ concluded Lawson.
