Minuteman Press George added a Xerox Versant 280 and a Riso ComColor GL9730 inkjet printer, purchased from Altron Document Solutions (ADS), and facilitated by Copy X Business Solutions (t/a Xerox Southern Cape), to its business.
The Xerox Versant 280 (V280) press combines speed and quality with the ability to print on supported stocks up to 400gsm. Versatile media support includes envelopes and stock as small as 98 x 146mm and as long as 330 x 660mm. Labels, tabs and special substrates like synthetics, polyesters, window clings, transfer paper and magnetic stocks are also supported.
Riso’s GL series boast a line-up of optional accessories that instantly transform tasks into a streamlined experience that meets users’ expectations, such as feeders, trays and stackers. The ComColor GL9730 features single-pass full-colour printing of up to 165 A4 long-edge feed colour pages per minute. The print type is a line-type inkjet system. Its ink type is oil-based pigment ink (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black and Grey).
Minuteman Press George owner, Pieter van der Merwe, transitioned from a 30-year career in the mining industry, to a career in print. Even though he was a mine surveyor, he was always intrigued with printing. ‘We drafted and printed mine plans of different sizes and knew the capabilities and features of the printing machines. When I left the mining industry, I felt the printing industry would be a good fit for myself and my career.’
He described the V280 as an integral part of the success of the business. ‘Quality and speed are essential when it comes to processing business cards, booklets, brochures, flyers and business folders. The V280 is ideal for printing and handling 350gsm paper.’
The Riso is ideal for NCR books and training manuals, and it is cost effective and fast. ‘The training industry is still far from going totally paperless, and we would like to penetrate that market locally.’
The service from ADS was described as excellent, ‘They did a good job from start until finish. They helped from financing to the delivering and installing of the machines and they provided excellent service delivery.’
