Minuteman Press Centurion CBD added a Xerox Versant 280 and a Riso ComColor GL9730 inkjet printer, purchased from Altron Document Solutions (ADS), to its business. The installation was facilitated by Compleo, a Xerox authorised reseller since 1999.
The Xerox Versant 280 (V280) press combines speed and quality with the ability to print on supported stocks up to 400gsm. Versatile media support includes envelopes and stock as small as 98 x 146mm and as long as 330 x 660mm. Labels, tabs and special substrates like synthetics, polyesters, window clings, transfer paper and magnetic stocks are also supported.
Riso’s GL series boast a line-up of optional accessories that instantly transform tasks into a streamlined experience that meets users’ expectations, such as feeders, trays and stackers. The ComColor GL9730 features single-pass full-colour printing of up to 165 A4 long-edge feed colour pages per minute. The print type is a line-type inkjet system. Its ink type is oil-based pigment ink (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black and Grey).
‘With the acquisition of the GL9730, Minuteman Press Centurion CBD is now able to provide a more cost effective way of producing training manuals, with the ability to provide a quick turn around time for short run NCR books,’ said John de Beer, independent contractor, Altron Document Solutions.
Minuteman Press Centurion CBD owners Colleen and Hans van Eck said that although they have only just recently installed the V280, they and the team are very pleased with the quality of the machine: ‘We used to use another brand, but unfortunately continuous problems with parts, inks and service had a severe effect on our business. We had to consider looking at an alternative, which we then came across with Xerox. So far, clients are very pleased with the print quality of the machine.’
The V280, which the business mostly uses for business cards, brochures and booklets, was also praised for its speed and reliability, as well as its capabilities. For example, it can print on 400gsm paper, whereas previous machines could only print on paper up to 350gsm. The machine’s quicker delivery time for the company’s client base of over 18,000 customers is also a key feature.
‘With the Riso machine, we can work so much faster. So once again, the clients are really taken aback with how quickly invoice and NCR books get done, as opposed to the old method that we used to do in terms of our litho machines, which usually took a few days before you could deliver the product to the customer.’
‘That’s completely changed now. Within a day or two, we have the client’s order ready. Word of mouth is already starting to spread, with more and more customers coming to us specifically for the type of printing of which the Riso machine is capable.’ Van Eck added if the Riso continuous to perform as it does, that they will invest in more of these machines.
ADS and Compleo, comprised of a large team of sales people and technicians, were commended for their service, reliability, quick response times and training, which van Eck said are critical factors to help run a business such as Minuteman Press.
‘We’ve been with Minuteman for just over 15 years and we’ve actually seen the shift of so many Minuteman outlets moving to Xerox, and that was a very positive indicator to us,’ said van Eck.
