Domino Printing Sciences Launches New Electric Pallet Labeller

The new, electrically driven Mx350i-eP pallet labeller boasts a suite of smart technological enhancements that allow for safer operation and improved efficiency while reducing overall energy and air consumption compared with traditional pneumatic technology. Electrical applicators are a significant improvement from pneumatic applicator technologies that offer a substantial reduction in overall energy and factory air requirements.

The new Mx350i-eP is part of Domino’s electric range of print and apply label applicators, which build on existing Mx-Series technology by delivering electrical applicators with motion paths in the horizontal and vertical planes to suit a wide range of product and palletising applications.

‘In the global logistics industry, where millions of pallets are shipped every day, the need for effective labelling for traceability and identification of products as they move through supply chains has never been greater,’ said Sharmil Ghouse, Global Head of TTO and P&A, Domino. ‘As demand for print and apply labelling continues to grow year on year, businesses are also prioritising sustainability, seeking energy-efficient pallet labelling technologies that align with their environmental goals while protecting worker safety, and enhancing operational efficiency – we have developed the Mx350i-eP with these demands in mind.’

The Mx350i-eP has been designed with new intelligent technological enhancements that allow for operation without the need for additional safety guarding, allowing for seamless integration onto pallet labelling lines and easy operator access to the machine. Features include an innovative applicator arm, designed to reduce pinch points, and with built-in collision detection functionality to automatically stop and safely move away in the event of a collision or failure.

The Mx350i-eP is highly efficient thanks to its electrically driven applicator, which requires up to 40% less energy and up to 50% less factory air than previous generation pallet labellers. Each labeller is also 60% lighter and has a 40% smaller footprint than previous models due to the removal of safety guarding. This results in an overall reduction in the shipping volume of packaging material by up to 60%, helping to lower emissions from transport.

Like all Domino’s technologies, Mx350i-eP is designed to help customers promote efficiency and reduce the risk of waste by using efficient labelling processes. The flexible arm applicator with individually controllable joints provides a wide range of motion for labelling on the front, side or back of full, half, or part pallets. The flexible arm also allows for variance in pallet location, with the ability to search for a pallet by up to 100mm in any direction along the horizontal plane of application. An optional camera system within the label applicator provides the capability to check and verify codes on labels for accuracy and reliability and allows for the automatic reapplication of labels in the event of an error, to reduce the risk of waste and stop incorrect labels or codes entering the supply chain.

‘I’ve recently attended two customer installations in Germany and was very pleased with the enthusiastic feedback we received. Our new electrical pallet labeller is certainly proving its worth, and delivering exceptional versatility and flexibility,’ said Claes Lindh, Senior Business Support Manager, Domino. ‘Our trial customers have been very impressed and truly recognise the advantage of this safe, smart, and highly efficient technology. We’ve also showcased the Mx350i-eP at major trade shows across the US and Europe, where the feedback has been extremely positive.’

Alongside the Mx350i-eP, Domino is also introducing a new print and apply unit for flexible box labelling, built on the same innovative concept – the Mx351i-eC – which requires up to 80% less energy, and 90% less factory air than previous generation box labellers. The Mx351i-eC features a flexible electric arm for corner-wrap, top, front, and rear labelling applications. The new systems offer seamless integration into packaging lines and are optimised to support maximum label adhesion while reducing stress on the box.

‘I’m very pleased to introduce the new Mx350i-eP to the market,’ said Lindh. ‘Our new pallet labeller has been engineered to meet the changing demands of the global logistics market and designed for the ease of use and safety of the people who keep the world moving. I can’t wait to watch it transform the industry.’
