Coveris Advanced Coatings received the award for Flexible Plastics Pack of the Year at the UK Packaging awards with its Freshlife MAP avocado packs for Tesco and Waitrose, created in partnership with Greencell.

The UK Packaging Awards celebrate the best in quality, innovation, sustainability and talent from across the industry. Coveris was this year shortlisted for a record eight entries across four different categories, culminating in an impressive win in the flexible packaging category.

The winning packs combine Coveris’ modified atmosphere (MAP) film with Greencell’s patented UV technology to deliver at least +2 days shelf-life and a 25% quality improvement in ripe and ready-to-eat avocados. Significantly reducing in-store waste, improving consumer satisfaction and product availability, the packs are an example of effective collaboration to achieve shared environmental goals.

Simon Buswell, Coveris Sales Director for Film said, ‘We are extremely proud to have won this award, for this product and category in particular. Given the unprecedented media attention on plastics and the changes we have experienced as a business in the past year, this product is a fantastic demonstration of plastics doing a sustainable job to significantly reduce food waste and environmental impact, in line with our Pack Positive® strategy. It also demonstrates the importance of collaboration in delivering sustainable solutions and we would again like to thank Greencell for enabling us to work with them on this project to deliver what is now an award-winning product.’
