Fujifilm Announces New Printing Technology During Drupa

FUJIFILM announced a range of new solutions, including presses, an inkjet printhead and more, during drupa 2024, which takes place in Düsseldorf until 7 June.

Revoria Series

FUJIFILM Group announced the launch of four new mid-range production presses in the Revoria Press series globally. The Revoria Press EC2100S and Revoria Press SC285S are equipped with a specialty toner station (Clear, Pink, Custom Red, Gold and Silver for specialty toners. The availability of Gold and Silver will be announced later). This is in addition to the four-colour toners, enabling five-colour printing in one pass. The Revoria Press EC2100 and Revoria Press SC285 are four-colour presses. All four products are compact in size with high print quality and speed. Worldwide sales will begin from December 2024 onwards.

The Revoria Press series was launched in July 2021. The flagship model, the Revoria Press PC1120, caters to the high-end professional market and offers a one-pass six colour print engine of up to two specialty toners, print resolution of 2400dpi, high-speed printing at 120 pages per minute and high image quality printing with Super EA-Eco toner, which has one of the smallest toner particle sizes in the industry.

The Revoria Press EC2100S and Revoria Press EC2100 print at a high speed of 100 pages per minute (paper weight 52-400 gsm, when running A4 uncoated paper, when using CMYK colour) and are primarily used for an extensive range of commercial printing and quick printing. While the Revoria Press SC285S and Revoria Press SC285 with a printing speed of 85 pages per minute (paper weight 52-400 gsm, when running A4 uncoated paper and when using CMYK colour) are used for quick printing and in-house printing.

The products can handle an expansive range of paper weights from lightweight 52 gsm to heavyweight 400 gsm (when using the Air Suction Feeder), and paper sizes from a minimum of 90 x 146mm up to 330 x 1300mm (requiring the optional installation of a paper feed/release tray that supports long sheet printing) without reducing its printing speed. Equipped with a new feature, Smart Monitoring Gate D1 detects colour variation and front-to-back misalignment during printing, enabling automatic correction in real time to maintain high print quality without compromising on productivity. To generate high-quality images and smooth workflows, there will be two choices of Revoria Flow and Fiery print servers available. With the newly developed vertical toner development system that can contribute to maintain compact machine size, users can now produce premium quality printed materials, even when working with a wide variety of products, small lots, and short delivery times, such as catalogues, brochures, manuals, and sales promotion materials.

Printhead

FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc. announced the introduction of its new FUJIFILM Dimatix SKYFIRE SF600 inkjet printhead. The printhead leverages FUJIFILM Dimatix’s proprietary piezoelectric inkjet technology based on proven silicon Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (Si-MEMS) fabrication techniques. This new printhead reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the transition from analogue to digital inkjet printing and the exploration of emerging markets and applications.

‘Our customers require printheads that can withstand a wide variety of inks and print at high speeds while offering high quality and durability. The unique design features of the FUJIFILM Dimatix SKYFIRE SF600 underscore the company’s continued commitment to innovation, and provide reliable, high-quality sustained printing to enhance productivity in a wide range of demanding applications,’ said Steve Billow, President and Chief Executive Officer, FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc.

The printhead delivers 600dpi resolution with a drop size range of 5-25pL and nozzle layout that enables high throw distance to meet a broad range of applications. To ensure consistent output, the FUJIFILM Dimatix SKYFIRE SF600 is equipped with an integrated trimming heater and temperature sensor as well as REDIJET® coating for optimal use of aqueous and UV inks. Rounding up these features is top and tail alignment for compact integration and improved printhead to printhead accuracy.

The printhead incorporates high-speed jet design, with REDIJET elements including noise dampening technology and dual recirculation for reliable jetting at high speeds. The printhead can jet 11 grams of ink per square metre per colour at over 130 metres per minute with four levels of greyscale. OEMs benefit from versadrop open waveform editing capability. For decades, this capability has enabled developers to tune printhead performance to their specific application.

The printhead is taking advantage of FUJIFILM Dimatix’s proprietary sputtered PZT rated for trillions of actuations. It is designed with REDIJET coatings that enables it to reliably jet a range of aqueous solvent, oil and UV curable types common in large single-pass and scanning printing systems.

Smart Flow

FUJIFILM Group also announced a future solution concept enabling production printing ‘smartification’. The concept will accelerate digital transformation of printing companies and provide the most suitable combination of Fujifilm Group’s wide variety of printing solutions portfolio, from offset, to POD, to inkjet.

Smart Flow has three different solutions: ‘Smart Automation’, ‘Smart Production’ and ‘Smart Marketing’.

Smart Automation provides intelligent automation and device management of FUJIFILM devices, and also effectively controls 3rd party devices using its APIs. This is done by tightly integrating FUJIFILM Workflow XMF and Revoria XMF PressReady. The automation includes FUJIFILM’s new Robotics automation solution to facilitate automation between processes such as press and post-press. Smart Automation has the ability to streamline pre-press, press and post-press processes.

Smart Production offers entire shop floor automation and visualisation of job submission, planning and scheduling using an SaaS platform. FUJIFILM is introducing an AI solution concept with zero-touch operation which allows automation of processes from order taking to product finishing.

Smart Marketing offers an environment to develop a digital marketing service platform without specialised skills. This is the first time the service concept model is being demonstrated. The digital marketing capability will help printing companies to offer end to end marketing services to their brand owners.
