Printing SA’s recent CEO breakfast took place at the Kyocera South Africa offices in Midrand and was live streamed via YouTube. The hybrid event was held in partnership with Productivity SA and proudly hosted by Kyocera South Africa.

Being productive can help your company increase its overall productivity and effective utilisation of its resources. Most productive companies have happy and healthy employees, which are the basis of a successful organisation. The more you can produce with the resources available, the greater the value your team generates. Printing SA partnered with Productivity SA to provide attendees insights into how they can achieve maximum productivity in these ever changing times.

Productivity SA is a government entity established in terms of Section 31 of the Employment Services Act, No. 4 of 2014, as a juristic person to promote employment growth and productivity.

Watch a recording of the event below:

Zayed Bagus, Printing SA Operations Director, welcomed attendees and thanked the federation’s members for being the driving force behind its success and longevity, especially as it celebrates its 110th anniversary.

Lalané Janse van Rensburg, Regional Executive Manager: Operations Region 1 at Productivity SA.

Lalané Janse van Rensburg, Regional Executive Manager: Operations Region 1 at Productivity SA, explained how the government-funded entity can enhance a company’s productivity at different points of the business life cycle. Productivity SA has completed successful implementations across industries.

She outlined how anybody can benefit from Productivity SA’s interventions, namely from a process improvement perspective. This includes identifying factors that influence productivity and how they can be enhanced, or identifying bottlenecks and how they can be eliminated. Such influences or bottlenecks can be measured and monitored, and ultimately enhance an individual and/or organisation’s productivity. Job retention or success stories in the media are good examples of measuring productivity.

According to Janse van Rensburg, productivity in South Africa is decreasing and it is the entity’s goal is to cultivate a culture of productivity in business. The latest World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) 2020 shows that South Africa’s competitiveness fell by three notches to be ranked 59 out of 63 countries – rated by the the Institute for Management Development (IMD). The WCY is an annual report that ranks the competitiveness of 63 selected countries and is recognised internationally as the leading survey of competitiveness between nations. The rankings are drawn from a combination of hard data and an Executive Opinion Survey. Productivity SA is the information partner institute for the IMD in South Africa.

Productivity SA has a team of specialists that help to improve any aspect related to the improvement of productivity. If it is an organisation, this can be done through programmes such as conducting in-depth assessments of any function, be it sales, marketing or HR departments. There are different areas that drive productivity, such as sustainability, competitiveness and financials, and they can be all be gauged and improved upon.

Janse van Rensburg also discussed the importance of partnerships, be it with schools, businesses and government departments to enhance productivity, as well as seeing what other countries around the world are doing to enhance productivity. With enhanced productivity, people start to work smarter and not harder, retrenchments are avoided and the economy can recover, even in the midst of a global pandemic.

‘We don’t just look at one definition of productivity, we look at multi-factor productivity,’ she said, adding that there are different methods of improving productivity as well as emphasising the importance of wanting to improve business processes and doing so constantly.

‘The participating companies need to be assessed and areas for improvement must be identified. The unique aspect will come through clustering, clustering within a sector/value chain inititative, i.e. once assessed the industry participants may be benchmarked against others within the industry locally or internationally,’ added Janse van Rensburg.
