Duplos new DBMI Saddle Stitcher System and DC-645 slit, cut and crease finishing machine are now available in South Africa from Kemtek Print Solutions.

After the announcement earlier in the year at drupa, the new versatile Duplo fully automated saddle stitcher, the DBMi Saddle System, which can produce books from CD inserts to A4 landscape, is now in South Africa. With book thicknesses up to 120 pages, this innovative machine delivers flatter, more precise books than any other machine in the market.

Designed for today’s busy printer, the system provides versatile and flexible solutions for the current saddle stitching market and consists of two, three or four Hohner stitching heads, and up to six DSC-10/60i suction collators which have intelligent feeding capabilities for custom feed sequences. As well as being capable of handling a variety of stocks, we also have the ability to control the flow and strength of the air and vacuum in each collator bin, truly making this the heart of the system, said Terry Wafer, Graphic Arts Product Marketing Manager at Duplo International.

The DBMi Saddle System is extremely user-friendly and is completely controlled by a GUI (Graphical User Interface) PC control unit which means that a single operator can set most of the parameters from one location. This makes it an attractive solution for both short-run digital and longer run offset applications.

Speed is also an important factor when it comes to the DBMi Saddle System. An impressive 9000 books per hour can be achieved when fitted with the optional DKT-200 trimmer and gutter cut knives. Stored jobs can be recalled almost instantly, with set-up time taking 60 seconds or less, including the scoring tool height and folding gap thickness for each individual book.

Robin Greenhalgh, Chairman of Duplo International, said, Complementing Duplo’s existing line of quality, fully automatic booklet makers, the DBMi Saddle System gives our customers the capability to produce professionally saddle stitched publications including the increasingly popular A4 landscape size.

Duplo DC-645 slit, cut and crease finishing machine

This slit, cut and crease, digital colour print in one pass, high-speed and heavy-duty off-line/near-line solution enables applications including business cards, folded business cards, greeting cards, postcards, leaflets, CD/DVD inlays, brochures and point-of-sale materials.

Specifically designed to match the output of high end production digital presses, it produces bespoke print on demand materials on stocks of up to 350gsm.

Most colour digital applications require the ability to trim to a full bleed product and/or crease, for crack-free folding of digital prints. The Duplo DC-645 is unique in combining slitting, trimming and creasing in one product, with all three functions operating in a single pass. Gone are the days of purchasing multiple machines requiring double the space, cost and manpower.

Cost-effective and easy to operate, it finishes up to 26 sheets per minute and accommodates paper weights from 110 to 350gsm. The new DC-645 boasts an optional PC based user interface and JDF connectivity, making it simple to programme, and as the market continues to migrate towards new and more varied print jobs, the flexible design can incorporate additional tool modules such as business card cutters, perforators or scorers.

We will display these exciting and productive machines at the 2012 Africa Print Expo, said Gavin van Rensburg, Chief Executive of Kemtek Print Solutions.
