Based on newly developed Canon inkjet technology, the seven-colour prototype B2+ duplex press harnesses Canon’s deep heritage in imaging and sets out to push the technical boundaries of inkjet to a new level of quality.
Canon expects Voyager to be of interest to print service providers producing high added-value applications, such as catalogues, brochures, marketing materials and customer publications for luxury brands, real estate, food and travel where the quality of image reproduction is paramount. With its high gloss, photo quality output, Voyager could also lend itself to the production of classic photographic applications such as premium quality photo books, single photos and commemorative prints.
‘Visitors to the Canon stand at drupa who saw the Voyager samples were amazed at the quality of output achievable from this prototype inkjet production print engine,’ commented Executive Vice President at Canon Europe, Jeppe Frandsen.
‘They saw Canon’s technical capability to deliver the exceptional print quality that consumers expect from a photographic print, but at industrial production levels. This demonstrates the future scope for an array of high quality applications to be produced using inkjet technology, effectively redrawing the technical boundaries of inkjet, and challenging all prevailing perceptions of the capabilities of digital print.’
The key product innovation highlights at drupa were:
• The global launch of the Océ ColorStream 6000 Chroma continuous inkjet press, featuring new Chromera inks, extending the press’s capabilities towards high quality graphic arts applications.
• The global launch of the Canon imagePRESS C8000VP, following the successful introduction in Autumn 2015 of the flagship imagePRESS C10000VP model, offering the highest toner productivity across a wide range of media.
• The global launch of the new ColorGrip option and new inks for the Océ VarioPrint i300 cutsheet inkjet press, enabling high quality colour reproduction on standard offset coated media.
• The global launch of the Océ Arizona 2200 Series of flatbed wide format printers (see separate release), together with the recently launched Océ Arizona 1200 Series, and the Océ ColorWave 910.
• The first showing at a public exhibition of the Océ ImageStream 2400 continuous feed inkjet press, optimised for printing on standard offset media launched February 2015.
Reflecting Canon’s expanding 3D print offering, several systems were demonstrated, working with the Materialise Magics workflow software following Canon’s recently announced partnership with Materialise.
New partnerships with Plockmatic and BDT were also announced at drupa 2016, with solutions from both companies demonstrated in conjunction with Canon imagePRESS colour production presses on the Canon stand.
