Africa Print Expo organisers Practical Publishing donated a 42" television screen, DVD/CD player, DVDs and over 40 bags of toys and sweets to the Siyakhula Children’s Home in Orange Farm on 4 December 2014.

Practical Publishing, together with John McCarthy from Keymark Media, who has been involved with the children’s home for the past four years, handed over the gifts to the children.

Siyakhula was established in 2010 by Patricia Makoro, secretary of the Board at Siyakhula Children’s Home, and Bernard Matesanwa the chairperson of the board at Siyakhula. The home accommodates over 50 children aged 3-16.

Makoro thanked Practical Publishing for the gifts. ‘Its people like you who contribute to making this world a better place. We are so fortunate to have a lot of monthly donations. The children are very excited about the gifts and their excitement is contagious. The kids are very privileged to have people who think of them during this time of the year who make them feel special and not left out and we are grateful for the lovely gesture.’

Matesanwa added, ‘Running an orphanage is not easy but people’s donations are very helpful. This job has it’s challenges, but seeing the smiles on these children faces makes everything worthwhile.’
