The latest edition of Africa Print Journal is online. In this issue, we outline how readers can be at the forefront of technology with the largest printing expo in Africa. The Africa Print Expo is ideal for those exploring the latest packaging and printing solutions.

Other features in this issue:

  • Energy calculations for digital presses: the problem is not unique to digital presses, but how do you measure energy usage and the overall energy efficiency of a machine? With cars the most usual method is how many litres of fuel it takes to travel 100 kilometres.
  • Industry 4.0: the benefits and challenges - Industry 4.0 was a major theme at drupa 2016, with exhibitors showcasing solutions that create efficiencies and increase productivity. 'Print 4.0 is the enabler for individualisation and personalisation in digital printing, high-quality packaging and the fast-growing range of solutions in industrial and functional printing,' said Claus Bolza-Schünemann, Chairman of the drupa Committee and Chief Executive of Koenig & Bauer AG.
  • Standing still can kill your business: the importance of ongoing training - John Tschohl, President, Service Quality Institute finds this unbelievable: the U.S. Bureau of Labour statistics found that companies with fewer than 100 employees gave only 12 minutes of manager training every six months. Organisations with 100-500 employees provided just six minutes. He outlines why training is important to business' success.
  • Dscoop EMEA keeps attendees at forefront of developments in digital printing: over 1200 attendees gathered at the Dscoop Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) event, held in Lyon from 7-9 June. Africa Print was invited to see the latest developments in the digital printing industry, learn about new trends and opportunities in the market, hear from notable speakers, and explore new ways in which brands can engage with customers.
  • Why UV ink? Counting the benefits: with the ability to print directly to both flexible and rigid materials, including glass, wood, foam based and composite materials, vinyl, fabric, aluminium and other unconventional substrates, UV ink enables print businesses to enter new and niche markets and to experiment with novel industrial applications, as well as eliminating the material, labour and equipment costs of mounting and lamination.
  • Africa Print breaks new ground in Zambia: the first Africa Print Expo outside of South Africa took place at the Mulungushi ICC on the 8-9 June in Lusaka, Zambia. Exhibitors welcomed 567 visitors from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
